Cross-Thematic Sessions (CTSs) provide space for papers that are relevant to the broader field of comparative education but that do not necessarily relate closely to the focus in any of the working groups or the main conference theme.

CTSs also provide space for a group of three or four papers which go beyond the conference theme by touching on theoretical and/or methodological issues related to comparative education, and which would therefore profit from being grouped together.

Colleagues that wish to put together a CTS of three or four papers should submit a title and an overall description of their CTS of between 300-400 words and may include the following information:

  • Objectives and main questions to be addressed.
  • Main perspectives and/or theoretical/conceptual frameworks.
  • Importance of the cross-thematic session to comparative education.
  • Description of how the session will be structured.

At the time of submission you will be asked to also submit the abstracts of all individual papers (three or four), as well as the names and affiliations of the CTS participants (and their emails).

A CTS is 90 or 120 minutes long and, normally, three or four papers are presented in each session with approximately 30 minutes allocated to each paper. (See Paper Presentation Guidelines).

The chairs of the CTSs will be decided by the CESE Executive and the Local Organising Committee.
